Carry On England

Chameleon Press, 1996
Norman Giller

FOR: "I roared out loud when reading the description of the attempted assassination attempts on the Winston Churchill dummies ... and the scene in which they broke into the mental asylum was farce at its best ... much, much funnier than a disappointing film."

- P. Watson, Meads, Eastbourne, Sussex.

AGAINST: "This was a failure as a film, and an even bigger flop as a novel. It went way over the top by introducing an element of farce that made events quite unbelievable. The strength of the Carry On films is that you feel the characters are real, but it was impossible to identify with anybody in the book. I will admit laughing at the scene in which the captain faced the German assassin in ill-fitting armour, but most of the time I was too incredulous to laugh.

- J. Chamberlain, Kettering, Northants.
