Carry On producer, Peter Rogers, has gone on record many times, stating that the success of the Carry Ons is due entirely to the wonderful cast and crew who worked on them. The team spirit behind the films is legendary, as are the names of those who worked on them. Never in the history of cinema has such a talented and well loved ensemle cast been brought together. There was never really a star of the Carry On series; instead, it had a kind of repertory company. Names like Kenneth Williams, Sid James and Charles Hawtrey became known in every home, if they weren't already. There was never one overall star - all the regulars, and there were many, shared equal billing and roughly equal on-screen time. The cast of the Carry Ons encompass just about every comedy cliche there is; Hattie Jacques, the fat matronly character; Sid James; the dirty old man; Charles Hawtrey, the hapless innocent who always ends up on the wrong side of trouble; Barbara Windsor, the saucy buxom blonde; the list goes on. Here, you'll find profiles of many of the names associated with the Carry On series. |
